Clarksville Physician Elected Second Vice President of the American Osteopathic Association Board of Trustees

(Chicago, IL). September 7 2006 — Thomas L. Ely, D.O., a board certified osteopathic family physician of Clarksville, Tenn., was elected second vice president of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Board of Trustees during its recent House of Delegates meeting in Chicago.

Dr. Ely is currently the chief medical officer for the Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville.

A member of the American Osteopathic Association since 1980, Dr. Ely has served as chair of the AOA Committee on Health Related Policies and currently serves as vice chair for the AOA Council on Research and the AOA Council on Scientific Affairs. He is also active in other osteopathic professional organizations, including the Tennessee Osteopathic Medical Association; the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians; and the American Association of Osteopathic Examiners.

Prior to attending the Kansas City (Mo.) College of Osteopathic Medicine, which is known today as the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Ely served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps, which included combat tours in the Republic of Vietnam. He re-entered the U.S. Army as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Medical Corps following his osteopathic medical education and retired from the service in 1988 as a lieutenant colonel. After earning his osteopathic medical degree (D.O.), Dr. Ely completed his internship and residency at DeWitt Army Community Hospital in Fort Belvoir, VA.
