DEA Notice of Proposed Rule on Locum Tenens Registration Requirements for Individual Practitioners
Washington, D.C. November 11 2009 —The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has released an advance notice of proposed rule making on registration requirements for individual practitioners operating in a locum tenens capacity. Locum tenens is a procedure in which one practitioner temporarily substitutes for another. DEA is seeking information in advance of issuing a proposed rule. The deadline for comments is December 28, 2009.

LMU Library Bringing Medical Research to "Loansome Docs"
Harrogate, Tennessee, June 9, 2009 — The Lon and Elizabeth Parr Reed Medical and Allied Health Library at Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) is one of seven Tennessee Health Sciences Library Association member libraries that will provide access to full-text research articles to physicians across the state of Tennessee.
The participating libraries are part of a pilot project funded by a grant from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) Southeastern/Atlantic Region (SE/A) and in collaboration with the Tennessee Medical Association (TMA). Participating libraries will assist physicians who are members of the TMA but who are not currently affiliated with a medical library.

AOA Re-Releases Statement of Healthcare Policies and Principles to Coincide with Announcement on America's Uninsured Populations
(Washington, DC) October 30, 2006 — The American Osteopathic Associations (AOA) has re-released its Statement of Healthcare Policies and Principles, adopted at the AOA's House of Delegates meeting in July 2005, to coincide with the Census Bureau announcement today that the percent of Americans without health insurance hit 15.9%, or roughly 46.6 million people, in 2005, up from 15.6% of the population in 2004, or about 45.3 million people.

Clarksville Physician Elected Second Vice President of the American Osteopathic Association Board of Trustees
(Chicago, IL). September 7 2006 — Thomas L. Ely, D.O., a board certified osteopathic family physician of Clarksville, Tenn., was elected second vice president of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Board of Trustees during its recent House of Delegates meeting in Chicago.
Dr. Ely is currently the chief medical officer for the Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville.
