Advocacy for Malpractice Reform in Tennessee

AOA President Karen J. Nichols, DO, joined Gabe Polk, DO, President of the Tennessee Osteopathic Medical Association, in sending a joint letter yesterday to the members of the Tennessee House of Representatives in support of HB 2008, the “Tennessee Civil Justice Act of 2011.”

This bill provides reforms to state laws relating to civil actions, including a $750,000 limit on jury awards for non-economic damages in medical malpractice cases and a $500,000 limit on punitive damages.  The AOA and TOMA applauded the legislature for taking up the issue of medical liability reform, one of the most pressing issues facing our Nation. We are committed to working with Congress and state legislatures to address this important issue.  A copy of our letter is posted online.
